A Change of Season, A Change of Heart 🍂❤️
Fall Style, Fresh Perspectives & a Little Heart-to-Heart
Polished. Present. Purposeful.
Hello, Pineapple Styling Nation! 🍍
It’s been a little while since we’ve connected, and boy, do I have some catching up to do!
Fall has always been one of my favorite seasons for fashion. The changing leaves, crisp Minnesota mornings, the return of boots, sweaters, and layers. It’s like getting an entirely new wardrobe without necessarily buying a thing!
But this year, the changing season has taken on a whole new meaning.
Just a couple of weeks ago, I experienced something I never imagined would happen to me. I had a heart attack.
Yes, you read that correctly!
I’m going to share a little more about that experience because I believe it’s an important conversation for women to have. But don’t worry, we’re still talking fashion! I’ve got some fabulous Pineapple Picks of the Season, including trends you may already have hanging in your closet.
A Little Heart-to-Heart ❤️

For those of you who know me, you know I take my health seriously. Resistance training three times a week, daily walks, meditation, deep breathing, and journaling are all part of my routine.
So when I started experiencing unusual symptoms, a heart attack was certainly not the first thing that crossed my mind.
My chest started burning, and I felt a deep, throbbing ache in my wrists, especially my left one. It was so uncomfortable that I actually had to take my watch off. Then came the clamminess, sweating, a little nausea, and tightness in my chest.
Something wasn’t right.
Thankfully, I listened to my body and called 911.
I’m sharing these details because women’s heart attack symptoms aren’t always what we expect. They can include chest discomfort, pain in the arms, nausea, and cold sweats. And you don’t need to experience all of them for something to be seriously wrong.
We’re still investigating exactly what caused my cardiac event. My doctors have discussed possible explanations, and stress has certainly been part of my life this past year.
Some of you know I’ve been navigating a particularly stressful personal situation for quite some time. While I can’t say that stress caused my heart event, I do know that prolonged stress can affect our health, even when we’re doing many other things right.
The wonderful news? My cardiologist is projecting a 100% recovery and has encouraged me to look forward to living my full life again.
And I cannot begin to express my gratitude for the incredible doctors and nurses who cared for me, my amazing husband Craig, my son Julio, my family, and the many friends who have surrounded me with love and support.

I’ve always believed in taking care of ourselves. Now I’m learning that sometimes taking care of ourselves also means slowing down, making room for joy, and listening when our bodies are telling us something.
Which brings me right back to this beautiful season.
Pineapple Picks of the Season 🍍
Before you head out shopping for fall, here’s my first styling assignment: Shop your closet!
I bet you already have some fabulous pieces just waiting to be rediscovered.
🍍 Pick 1: Chocolate Brown Is Having Its Moment
Let Mother Nature be your color consultant this season. Chocolate, caramel, camel, golden yellow, burnt orange, burgundy, and deep forest green.
I’m especially loving chocolate brown as a base neutral. Try it with cream, denim, wine, or another shade of brown or black. Rich, polished, and a beautiful alternative to all black.

🍍Pick 2: A Little Dark Romance
Lace and satin are making their way back into our wardrobes in those beautiful moody fall shades.
My favorite way to wear them? Mix your textures!
Think a delicate lace camisole with a chunky knit cardigan, a satin skirt with a leather jacket, or lace peeking out beneath a structured blazer.
That unexpected combination of feminine and structured pieces is what makes an outfit interesting.
🍍 Pick 3: Western Influence, Without the Rodeo
Cowboy boots, fringe, leather, tapestry-inspired cardigans, and square-toe ankle boots are all worth another look.
Pull those boots out of your closet! Try them with straight-leg denim, a skirt, or even a simple dress.
And while you’re at it, evaluate what still works. Are they comfortable? Do you love them? If not, maybe it’s time to let them go.
I was especially excited to play with this Western-inspired look for a trip Craig and I had planned to Red Rocks to see the Zac Brown Band. Unfortunately, my unexpected hospital stay meant canceling that adventure.
And while I was disappointed, there will be more concerts, more travel, and certainly more opportunities to pull out those cowboy boots!
For now, I’m embracing the quieter moments. A walk through the fall leaves, time with family, and the simple pleasure of being home.
Perhaps those really are some of life’s finer things.
🍍 Pick 4: Denim & Layers That Work for Real Life
Straight-leg denim remains a classic, while relaxed, trouser-inspired silhouettes are a comfortable way to update your look.
Pair them with a substantial knit sweater, a favorite baseball cap, and boots for an afternoon at the apple orchard or a walk through those beautiful fall leaves.
Add a scarf, vest, or jacket, and you’re ready to go.
🍍 Pick 5: Fall Style, Wherever You Live
To my Scottsdale and Phoenix friends, I know sweater weather might still be a distant dream!
But you can embrace fall through color and lighter fabrics.
Try chocolate-brown faux-leather shorts with a lace-trimmed camisole, ankle boots, and a lightweight jacket. Or a satin skirt with a breezy knit. Even a navy jumpsuit can transition beautifully into fall with the right accessories- especially animal print.

For my Minnesota and northern friends, bring out those heavier denims, cozy sweaters, scarves, and layered jackets. We’ll save the serious wool and winter accessories for later.
And for those of you who love a little bling, don’t worry. Holiday sparkle is just around the corner, and I’ll have plenty to say about that in my next style blog!
So, Where Has Nikki Steele Style Been?
While I’ve been a little quieter on Instagram these past few months, I certainly haven’t lost my love for styling.
I’ve been tinkering with a more referral-based business model, focusing on private styling clients and opportunities that come my way organically.
And it’s been a fun experiment!
Over the years, I’ve enjoyed some wonderful opportunities, including working as an independent style consultant at Nordstrom’s flagship Mall of America store, participating in boutique styling events, and contributing my fashion perspective to publications including HuffPost.
These experiences are exactly why I love what I do. Working with real women, helping them discover their personal style, and showing them how to feel polished and put together without making getting dressed complicated.
And of course, there’s TRAVEL!
You know how much I love exploring new destinations, finding fabulous places to stay, and putting together travel wardrobes that are both practical and stylish.
From packing a capsule wardrobe for a European adventure to figuring out what to wear for a golf getaway or a weekend concert, travel styling continues to be one of my favorite parts of Nikki Steele Style.
So don’t worry, I’ll still be sharing travel inspiration, packing ideas, and those little discoveries that make a trip even more memorable.
But I also wanted to give myself permission to step away from the constant cycle of Instagram stories and daily posts.
And you know what? I missed you!
I missed sharing my perspective, my favorite finds, and those little styling ideas that can make such a difference.
So I’m finding my way back, with a little more intention and a lot less pressure.
Polished. Present. Purposeful.
These three words have become so much more than my approach to fashion.
POLISHED is about feeling confident and comfortable in your own skin, whether you’re dressed for a special occasion or simply running errands.
PRESENT is about enjoying the moment you’re in. The colorful leaves on your morning walk. Coffee with a girlfriend. Dinner with family. Those everyday moments that suddenly feel so much more precious.
PURPOSEFUL is about making intentional choices, from what we wear and what we buy to how we spend our time and care for ourselves.
My recent experience has reminded me that we can plan for tomorrow, but we also need to enjoy today.
And perhaps that’s the most important style lesson I can share this season.
It’s not about having the perfect wardrobe or always looking perfectly put together.
It’s about feeling good in your clothes, confident in your choices, and grateful for the life you’re living.
A Little Help Behind the Scenes
One more thing I’ve been embracing lately? Artificial intelligence!
You may notice me experimenting with AI to help organize my thoughts, write, and manage some of the behind-the-scenes work that goes into Nikki Steele Style.
But rest assured, the fashion perspective, styling tips, personal experiences, and opinions are all mine.
AI is simply helping me get those ideas out of my head and onto the page a little more efficiently. Think of it as my new virtual assistant, helping with the heavy lifting so I can spend more time doing what I love: styling, creating, traveling, and connecting with you.
Because technology may help me share the message, but the heart behind Nikki Steele Style will always be mine.
Here’s to a Beautiful New Season
As you transition your wardrobe this fall, I encourage you to rediscover something you already love, try an unexpected combination, and make time for the things that bring you joy.
I’m certainly going to be doing more of that myself.
Thank you for being part of my Pineapple Styling Nation and for allowing me to share a little more of my life beyond fashion.
If you’ve missed our style conversations, be sure to turn on your Instagram notifications for Nikki Steele Style. I’ll be sharing more styling inspiration, favorite finds, travel ideas, and perhaps a little more of this journey along the way.
Here’s to a change of season, a change of heart, and all the beautiful possibilities ahead.
Polished. Present. Purposeful.
And remember…
Be like a pineapple. Stand tall, wear a crown, and be sweet on the inside. 🍍
